Fairtrade Impact Impact That Changes Lives

More Than Just a Fair Price: How Your Cup of Coffee Strengthens the Community Where It’s Grown

Always Fairtrade

Fairtrade gives you peace of mind and our producers a future

Almost everyone is familiar with the Fairtrade seal—whether from packaging in the supermarket or from advertisements. But what exactly is behind it? As early as 1993, we had a clear goal: to advance fair trade with Germany’s first Fairtrade coffee. That goal has since become the guiding principle for an entire generation of coffee lovers.

That’s why it’s important to have an organization like Fairtrade that monitors the entire value chain for coffee and other products: from the working conditions of local people, through export and import, all the way to us as coffee roasters.

How does coffee become Fairtrade coffee?

You can't buy the Fairtrade seal. You have to earn it.

Requirements

To be eligible to carry the Fairtrade seal, products must meet strict guidelines that Fairtrade upholds. The requirements are divided into three main categories: environmental, social, and economic standards.

The independent global organization FLOCERT serves as the monitoring body. If all standards and requirements are met, the product in question is ultimately awarded the Fairtrade seal.

Fairtrade Contains So Much Organic Content

You'll love organic coffee just as much as the environment does.

Fairtrade is not the same as organic. However, about three-quarters of all Fairtrade coffees are certified organic. At Café Intención, the proportion is even more pronounced: with the exception of our Clásico, all other varieties bear the EU organic label.

For Café Intención , organic is much more than just a dietary trend. For us, organic is a way of life, a sign of respect for nature and the raw materials it provides us. You can support this commitment with every cup of fair trade organic coffee.

Organic Certifications and Inspections
